Misleading Articles

Articles on the transsexed published by the Organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Despite the Organization having at its disposal all the latest medical information regarding the condition of gender dysphoria and its status as a congenital disorder or syndrome, there hasn’t been much in the way of change in opinion since the dark ages of the 1970’s regarding the transsexed. Gender reassignment for the transsexed is NOT a sexual behavior, inclination or deviation from what is natural.

But no matter what any man believes or thinks of us, it is only our Heavenly Father’s opinion that is valid and life saving. The scriptures throughout this website reinforce God’s view and not man’s. Some will never stop reading into scriptures what they wish in order to keep hold of their beliefs or that held by their religion, group or association. Nor will it release some from their bigoted comfort zones so they can face reality and find if they have even a shred of humanity and reasoning within. Our time and energy is best spent on those who love the word of truth whether it be in the pages of the written word of the Bible or in the pages of truthful accounts of those of us with gender dysphoria or the research pages of medical journals of recent publication by those treating us with knowledge, insight and compassion.

So, for our part, let us keep fast hold what has been written in black and white for hundreds of years and doesn’t, nor ever will, change. For we truly do know the truth and it has set us free.

John 8:32.

The following are articles published by the Organization from the 1970’s and into 2003 (though no more enlightened). These articles in no way reflect the opinions of transsexed Jehovah’s Witness’s, nor do they gage the real feelings or opinions of many non transsexed Witnesses within the Organization who have come to know us for the people we are inside – our hearts, minds and souls – and who accept the true nature of our condition and situation by educating themselves and have not followed blindly the doctrines or directives of men. Most Jehovah’s Witness’s once educated about the transsexed condition [many are so sheltered they don’t even know what a transsexed person is, let alone find themselves in a position to make an educated analysis of the situation], do not agree with the Brooklyn Brothers rulings, but they are not permitted to make public their feelings or they face excommunication.

A Male Becomes a Man (1973)

It is sometimes argued that ‘homosexuals cannot change.’ The Bible says they can. (1 Cor. 6:9-11) A recent case at the University of Mississippi Medical Centre emphasizes the Bible’s correctness. A seventeen-year-old boy displayed ‘transsexual’ traits—he walked, talked, stood, sat, and dressed like a girl. A sex change operation was considered. Doctors, however, taught the boy to alter these characteristics one at a time. A year later he is, doctors say, "in all respects functioning in his true physical role as a male."

********

MY PERSONAL OPINION: It is interesting to note the context of 1 Cor. 6: 9-11 which, as a general rule by main stream religion and fanatical individuals, has been taken out of context.

1 Cor. 6:9-11: What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom. And yet that is what some of YOU were. But YOU have been washed clean, but YOU have been sanctified, but YOU have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God.

Note what the scripture says, “YOU have been washed clean…sanctified…declared righteous.” It does not mention any of these early Christians having been cured. It is a well established fact, for instance, that once an alcoholic always an alcoholic. There isn’t endless debate to whether alcoholics are cured! It is accepted that an alcoholic who has abstained from alcohol is faced with a life long battle on a daily basis to refrain from drinking and that he or she can easily fall back into the practice of alcoholism. This also applies to vices such as greed, revelry, extortion and thievery. We can all change behaviors given the motivation and an incentive. The transsexed condition is not a practice and there is no incentive strong enough that I have observed that would have any of us lead a life of lies and self destructive self denial that wouldn’t lead to bitterness and regret while those around us get on happily with their lives.

The practice of homosexuality by those who are not homosexual, not the homosexual, is condemned by God; there is no arguing this fact. But comparing homosexuality with the gender condition of the transsexed is inappropriate. But at the end of the day, when all is said and done, it is us, the transsexed who can distinguish between sexual activities and that of brain gender and who we essentially are. Gender is not an activity; it is the person's very being and identity. From birth we are defined by our gender and upon this our whole future and relations with other human beings rests.

We clearly see through the convenient weapons used by others to convince the masses, and even the transsexed, that our condition is comparable to a condemned practice. It is clear to those of us with an accurate knowledge of the bible that these are unfounded condemnations from a misinterpretation of the Bible or an individual’s blind hate or unwillingness to face facts.

The above article was published in 1973 and outdated. Today, in the 21st Century, we have ample evidence that the transsexed brain has the physical structure of either a male in an anatomical female body or a female brain and an anatomical male body. In light of these new discoveries it is evident that the transsexed have a physical problem, not a mental one where we can no more change the structure of our brains that make us male or female than the non-transsexed. Transsexualism and homosexuality are separate issues; one is a gender issue and the other is about whether an individual is attracted to someone of the same sex. With the recent focus on transsexed children this is even more evident; for these children are claiming their gender identity long before they even understand the meaning of being attracted to the same gender in a sexual way.

The endless unfounded debate over the ‘immoral’ state of the transsexual, by those who will never walk in the same shoes as us, is an unfounded theory that has filled countless pages and continues to this day, and would be best used for land fill.

It is an uneducated move to take one 17 year old boy who showed ‘transsexual’ traits and use him as evidence that it is possible to cure those affected by legitimate diagnosed transsexualism. To further insinuate that this one boy’s case is also proof that the unassociated condition of homosexuality can be cured is pure arrogance. Homosexuality is not curable either; the evidence is there for those who want to listen to truth.

Has there been any follow up and further report on this boy some years later through The Awake! Magazine by the brothers who rashly seized the opportunity in a flurry of religious, but definitely not biblical, fanaticism to ungodly hang those with the life threatening condition of transsexualism? No there hasn’t been. The question could be asked whether the boy of 1973 was correctly diagnosed as transsexed and, if so, where is this mentally retrained boy now as a grown man during the year 2007. But in view of the whole article and its inappropriate reporting of both the transsexed and homosexual condition is the question even worth asking?

I am unaware of any person born with legitimate transsexualism having successfully undergone ‘curative therapy’ that has resulted in a permanent happy life in their biological body of birth. Likewise, I am unaware of any happy genuine homosexual being permanently cured, either by therapy or divine intervention. An individual may seem to be in all respects functioning as his or her original physical role as a biological male or biological female, but it doesn’t equate to living happily as his or her true innate gender as determined by the irreversible hard wiring of the brain before birth, and the resulting true essence of each human being as recognized by God.

Born in the Wrong Body? (1974)

"Transsexualism" is a word appearing with growing frequency in the news. A transsexual is not merely a transvestite (one who dresses in clothes of the opposite sex), nor necessarily a homosexual (though that may be the case). A transsexual is a person who rejects the sex with which he or she was born and takes up the life of the other sex. Claiming they were, in effect, "born in the wrong body," many have undergone radical surgery and hormone treatments to attain a sexual transformation. An estimated 1,500 persons in the United States and about 150 in Britain have done so. What really do they accomplish? Is it possible to change a normal person (not a hermaphrodite of ambiguous sex) from one gender to another?

The answer is, No. As Dr. Georges Burou, a French surgeon prominent in the field, says: "I don’t change men into women. I transform male genitals into genitals that have a female aspect. All the rest is in the patient’s mind." ("Time," Jan. 21, 1974, p. 64) In reality, the ultimate result is either a severely (and irreversibly) mutilated man who resembles a woman, or a severely (and irreversibly) mutilated woman who resembles a man.

The increase of transsexualism is but one more facet of the spread of practices "contrary to nature" characterizing much of this present period. (Compare Romans 1:26.) The remedy for those with such inclinations is not surgery but a change in outlook, ‘being made new in the force actuating their minds’ with the aid of God’s Word.—Eph. 4:22-24.

*******

MY PERSONAL OPINION: Since there was a combined number of 1650 recorded cases of individuals in Britain and USA having undergone hormone treatment and surgical procedures to align their body with that of their brain gender leading up to the year 1974, it is obvious that the transsexed were recognized as having a serious medical condition with the only appropriate treatment for most transsexed being hormones and surgery. If the ramifications of such radical treatment had been adverse to the majority seeking this life saving procedure, it would not have been allowed to continue.

Even if a handful of genuine transsexed individuals had experienced adverse outcome to this procedure, it would have hit headlines and the individuals themselves would have brought the dangers to the attention of others. But nothing. The only loud noise of disapproval has come from the doctors who are not experts in this area of medicine and have gained attention and popularity with the religious fanatics who feel gender reassignment is a violation of God’s laws. There are also the regrettable individuals who have undergone gender reassignment when they have not been genuine transsexuals, but still say they ‘were’, and now feel it their moral duty to say all transsexed people are mentally ill and need psychological help or that turning to God will fix the problem.

Being born in the wrong body is not a claim, it is a fact. We cannot accept our biological birth as we never understood or related to it in the first place. God created men and women. Men with male structured brains and women with female structured brains. This is what makes men and women different to one another. This is why a woman doesn’t feel like a man, and a man doesn’t feel like a woman – unless something goes wrong with the body’s blue print or, as theorized by some, something goes wrong with hormonal balance in the mother’s system during the carrying of child. It can only be concluded therefore that the transsexed brain did not form to the ideal blue print of what the Creator originally intended; but is not for God to condemn us any more than he would condemn someone born deaf or blind. He is a God of justice and compassion. Some early doctors believed this, that it was brain structure related. They did not believe it to be a mental illness. Today, many years later, these doctors so ahead of their time, have been proven correct through the latest medical discoveries of brain structure and the transsexed.

It is also relevant to note that no surgeon, such as Dr Burou, would have been permitted by the medical authorities to continue procedures that were harmful then or now. Today with the growing evidence that transsexualism is indeed not a mental illness but, in fact, another less obvious intersexed condition, there are less and less skeptics within medical circles.

More doctors are recognizing transsexualism as a condition treated by surgical intervention and not fruitless hours of psychological therapy that is appropriate for a mental condition of which transsexualism is not one.

No, it is not possible to change a ‘normal’ person from one sex (gender) to another, but the average Jo Blow on the street is not a transsexual, nor would they wish to be as it is not a choice.

Dr Georges Burou’s comments have been twisted. He was a compassionate and loving surgeon who pioneered reconstructive genital surgeries to bring it to a fine art and not a mutilating procedure as clearly shown by the beautiful transsexed women presenting them selves during the early sixties down to this day. By far there are more satisfied transsexed individuals who have had their lives transformed and even saved through these surgical procedures, than there are unhappy dissatisfied ones. And like with all surgeries there will always be those who are never satisfied with the results, and sadly some surgeries do go wrong.

Dr Burou spoke truthfully when he said he didn’t change men into women; for these ‘men’ were already women, he just helped put them into their right female form. Further, Dr Burou never touched a person unless they had undergone vigorous screening; following the standards of practice of his time.

There has not been an increase in transsexual individuals to reflect any spread of practices contrary to nature. We have existed since the beginning of human history. The facts are that, in today’s world of technology and communications, more of us are able to link up and get the support we need and the media has taken the opportunity to expose us – unfortunately not always in a positive light or with accuracy. Today we are increasingly less likely to be killed, beaten up or ostracized than we were over 40 years ago; it is safer for us to be who we have always been. For none transsexual individuals who thought that transsexualism was a choice or change of life style and decided to ‘try it’, they have come to the inevitable realization that transsexualism is not a choice nor is it a life style. Unfortunately, far too many have come to this realization only after undergoing irreversible surgeries and hormone treatment and thus for these individuals they would naturally feel and be ‘mutilated’.

Sex-Change a Paradise? (1977)

Do the sex-change operations so much desired by transsexuals really make their lives better? A Johns Hopkins Hospital psychiatrist followed the lives of 32 persons whose sex was medically changed and compared them with 66 persons of a transsexual disposition who were not operated on. He says that after an initial phase of elation for a few years, most of those operated on are "overtaken by the painful realization that nothing had really changed except certain elements of bodily configuration." The report in Science News states that "pre-existing emotional and personality problems re-emerge and the patient begins to realize that he or she is only a ‘facsimile’ of what was hoped for."

MY PERSONAL OPINION: In light of the recent discoveries that many reports from certain psychiatrists, particularly sexologist John Money, were falsified, the above article has one place – the bin.

For one example of the questionable behavior, actions and opinions of this prominent sexologist who helped establish the John Hopkins Hospital as a respected authority on sex and gender and later brought reproach upon it, please read the links below. (Need we say more?)

The Bible’s Viewpoint (2003)

Alternative Life-Styles—Does God Approve?
"WHEN will I know my sexual preference?" So wrote a 13-year-old girl to a teenage advice column. Her question echoes the attitude of many who feel that people are free to pursue any sexual life-style they choose.

Some people may genuinely struggle with confusion regarding their sexual feelings. Others openly embrace alternative life-styles such as homosexuality. Still others boldly act and dress as one of the opposite sex. Some undergo sex-change operations. There are even individuals who argue that adults should be allowed to have carnal relations with children.

Are sexual practices and gender really a matter of personal choice? What does God’s Word have to say on these issues?

"Male and Female He Created Them"

According to the Bible book of Genesis, God himself created the differences between males and females. The record states: "God proceeded to create the man in his image . . . Male and female he created them. Further, God blessed them and God said to them: "Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it."—Genesis 1:27, 28.

God created humans with free will and provided opportunities for them to enjoy their freedom. (Psalm 115:16) Entrusted with the responsibility of caring for all other living things on earth, man was even allowed to choose appropriate names for them. (Genesis 2:19) However, when it came to issues of sexuality, God gave specific guidelines.—Genesis 2:24.

Because of Adam’s disobedience, we have all inherited imperfection. We must therefore battle fleshly weaknesses and strong desires that are out of harmony with God’s original purpose. Thus, in the laws given through Moses, God specified sexual practices that were abhorrent to him—namely, adultery, incest, homosexuality, and bestiality. (Leviticus 18:6-23) God also specifically forbade portraying oneself as a member of the opposite sex for immoral purposes. (Deuteronomy 22:5) The Bible consistently teaches that the only sexual relations approved by God are with a member of the opposite sex within the marriage arrangement. (Genesis 20:1-5, 14; 39:7-9; Proverbs 5:15-19; Hebrews 13:4) Are such standards reasonable?

Who Chooses?

The Bible likens man’s position before his Creator to clay in the hands of a potter. It says: "O man, who, then, really are you to be answering back to God? Shall the thing molded say to him that molded it, ‘Why did you make me this way?’" (Romans 9:20) It is obvious from the way God made men and women that it is natural for them to be sexually attracted to one another. Sexual attraction to a member of the same sex, to an animal, or to a child is therefore unnatural.—Romans 1:26, 27, 32.

For this reason, people who pursue such unnatural sexual inclinations find themselves contending with God. The Bible contains this warning: "Woe to the one that has contended with his Former, as an earthenware fragment with the other earthenware fragments of the ground! Should the clay say to its former: ‘What do you make?’" (Isaiah 45:9) Surely it is reasonable for the Maker of humans to give direction on sexual matters. Is it not also reasonable that humans should follow such direction

Getting Possession of One’s Own Vessel

The Bible writer Paul used a similar illustration when giving guidance to Christians on sexual behavior. He said: "Each one of you should know how to get possession of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in covetous sexual appetite." (1 Thessalonians 4:4, 5) Paul compares a person’s body to a vessel. Getting possession of that vessel means bringing one’s thoughts and desires into harmony with God’s moral laws.

Admittedly, this may not be easy. One who has experienced childhood sexual abuse, one who had parents or other caretakers who provided a distorted example of masculinity or femininity, or one who had exposure to pornography at an early age may understandably have difficulties. Genetic, hormonal, and psychological factors may also play a role in distorting sexual feelings. It is comforting to know, however, that our Creator can provide help and support to those who need it.—Psalm 33:20; Hebrews 4:16.

Allow the Great Potter to Mold You

A piece of clay has to be centered on the potter’s wheel before the potter can begin to mold and shape it. Then, as the wheel rotates, the potter skillfully applies gentle pressure with his fingers to work the clay into a desirable shape. Before we can be molded into a desirable person in God’s eyes, we need to be centered on the timeless principles and laws of God. Once we start making the effort, God lovingly applies gentle pressure through the Bible, his holy spirit, and the Christian brotherhood. A person then begins to feel and experience God’s personal care in his life.

Of course, we must develop confidence in the Creator’s wisdom, trusting that he knows what is best for us. This trust is developed through prayer and an earnest study of the Bible. A person who approaches the issue of improper sexual feelings with that frame of mind becomes moldable in the hands of the Creator. First Peter 5:6, 7 says: "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; while you throw all your anxiety upon him, because he cares for you."

Regularly reading the Bible acquaints us with a long line of faithful servants of God who contended with fleshly desires but never gave up. How encouraging these examples are! We can sense the frustration the apostle Paul felt with himself at times when he exclaimed: "Miserable man that I am! Who will rescue me from the body undergoing this death?" Yet, he also directed us to the main source of help when he answered his own question: "Thanks to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!"—Romans 7:24, 25.

Force for Change

We can also avail ourselves of God’s holy spirit. This is a powerful force for change. Holy spirit helps us to "put away the old personality" and "put on the new personality which was created according to God’s will in true righteousness and loyalty." (Ephesians 4:22-24) Our loving heavenly Father never fails to respond when sincere requests are made for holy spirit to assist with making this change. Jesus assures us that the Father will "give holy spirit to those asking him." (Luke 11:13) Persistence in prayer is necessary, though, as indicated by his words: "Keep on asking, and it will be given you." (Matthew 7:7) This would be especially true when bringing powerful sexual desires under control.

God also helps us by means of the true Christian brotherhood, which is made up of people from all backgrounds. Some Christians in the first-century congregation at Corinth were previously in the category of "men kept for unnatural purposes" and "men who lie with men." Yet, they changed. The blood of Christ cleansed them, and they became acceptable in God’s sight. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11) Some today need to make similar changes. And such ones can receive support in their fight against wrong desires from the Christian congregation.

Does this mean that becoming a Christian will automatically cure a person of all deviant desires or confusion over gender? Not necessarily. Persistent application of Bible principles has enabled some to live normal lives. Even so, these Christians often have had to wage a day-to-day struggle against wrong desires. Such ones thus serve God despite having a figurative "thorn in the flesh." (2 Corinthians 12:7) As long as they continue to battle wrong inclinations and maintain righteous conduct, God views them as faithful servants and as clean in his eyes. They can look forward to the time in the future when all mankind "will be set free from enslavement to corruption and have the glorious freedom of the children of God."—Romans 8:21.

In the meantime, all those who wish to please God must adhere to his righteous standards. True Christians choose to serve God—not follow their own selfish inclinations. Those who humbly submit to God’s will in all areas of life will be rewarded with eternal joy and happiness.—Psalm 128:1; John 17:3. [End article]

*******

MY PERSONAL OPINION: It is again obvious by the statements in this 2003 article that transsexualism is being viewed as a sexual desire and act, not a gender issue born from the time of our conception and the hard wiring of an individuals brain structure during that miraculous, though misshapen, time. As we the transsexed do not have the luxury of being born with ambiguous genitalia or a noticeable chromosomal configuration that will only allow some individuals to accept us as intersexed, we are labeled as sexually perverse individuals going against God’s purposes for men and woman in order to follow our own selfish fleshly desires. The Organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses, as with many other mainstream religions, refuses to accept the latest medical findings of those specializing in transsexualism that the issue of transsexualism or gender dysphoria is one of many intersexed conditions; ours is not an issue of mental illness, perversion or sexual behavior.

The article states: God also specifically forbade portraying oneself as a member of the opposite sex for immoral purposes. (Deuteronomy 22:5).

Yes, it is clear that presenting one self as the opposite sex for immoral purposes is going against God. Through out history men and women have presented themselves as the opposite gender in order to engage in sexual practices such as prostitution or ceremonies that involved lurid sexual practices for rituals to please or appease false gods; many against their will. Father, the Creator of all mankind, has been watching since the time he has created us and knows how easy it is to be influenced by those around us or our own devious heart to engage in ungodly activities. He forbids the presenting of an individual as the opposite sex so that those desiring to serve God with a pure heart do not fall victim to fleshly desires that would harm ourselves or others and ultimately harm our relationship with God.

The transsexed do not dress opposite to our biological gender in order to engage in immoral activities or sexual behaviors. Presenting to the world the real person that has been trapped, unnoticed is not going against God and giving into a sexual desire. Being a man is not a sexual desire; being a woman is not a sexual desire; and neither is it a sexual desire when an individual presents him or her self as a man or a woman when that is what he or she is in the brain. Pretending to be that of ones biological birth and leading a life of misery and hopelessness, which has led to the suicides of countless transsexed, is not a healthy recourse physically, emotionally and, most importantly, spiritually. God is a God of happiness, truth and love. It is these qualities found in our Father that are proof that he doesn’t ask anyone to live as a slave to a cruel birth anomaly. Our gender should be no more a gender issue than that of the none transsexed.

Again, to write an article touching on issues such as incest, bestiality and the practice of homosexual acts and suggest that those who have undergone the process of gender reassignment are in the same adverse standing toward God, and a bold defiant one at that, is misleading and a breathe of death upon us who are transsexed. It is NOT a loving, rational article to have us thankful and thus collapse to our knees asking forgiveness and to be made well and sound in mind and soul when this has nothing to do with a choice of life-style; all it does is fuel the fires of hate and misunderstanding that has been unleashed upon the transsexed throughout history, and mainly from religious fanaticism, whether they be so-called Christian or otherwise.

I hope most readers (there will always be those who argue that the grass is pink and the earth flat) can see the unreasonable and incorrect inclusion and/or representation of the transsexed condition in all these articles presented. Articles that have been based on unscriptural reasoning and questionable or misinterpreted medical sources – not on God’s unchanging reliable word. We stand before Jehovah with a clean conscience for presenting our selves as who we are between the ears and as truth bearers; answerable yesterday, today and forever to no one but our loving and all seeing Father, Jehovah, as written in his word.

1 Samuel 16: 7. But Jehovah said to Samuel: “Do not look at his appearance and at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him. For not the way man sees [is the way God sees], because mere man sees what appears to the eyes; but as for Jehovah, he sees what the heart is.”
